Trigger Point Self Massage

I have recently taken up Trigger Point Self Massage and it is working wonders for me. I know what you might be thinking, massaging yourself? That’s exactly what I wondered when I first looked into it. I was introduced to Trigger Point products by John Williams from HFPT.

Trigger points are the contractions of muscles into knots and are the cause of some pain. As commonly known muscles tighten through sport and exercise, strain through repetitive movements and a lack of nutrients.

As a professional player who is either training, in the gym or playing matches my muscles are constantly being used and strengthened. Therefore it is not uncommon for me to have niggles and aches after exercise; this was my main reason for looking into self treatment. Also, as mentioned above nutrient deficiency is another contributory factor to trigger points, I pay a lot of attention ensuring my nutrient intake is at its best.

It is important to know that everyone has trigger points in various parts of their body but the degree of the muscle knot differs. Pain in muscle areas of the body are the clearest sign of a trigger point, especially if you have been exercising a certain part of the body.

For me, my legs are the most used area of my body due to the nature of my training, covering great distances over the course of a week. After playing matches, either midweek or at the weekend, when my muscles have been stretched and used at a high speed for a considerable amount of time it takes some time for them to recover.

The Trigger Point tools are great to take on long journeys either by plane or car after you have been cramped up to relieve stress and pain in the muscles.
